If you are a structure that wishes to hold a workshop about / digital scenography / immersive technologies for the stage/ contact us and we will find together the best option for you.
We offer hands on workshops about immersive technology for the performing arts and related to our current field of research that we are happy to share with others. The tools that we will use, depending on the length of the workshop and type of participants: contemporary dance and performance in dialog with virtual reality (with headset), real time 3d engine (Unreal Engine 5), motion capture.
The workshop can be of different length and content from a three hour introduction to VR up to a two weeks workshop with final presentation (described below).
Workshops are aimed to students or young professionals in the field of contemporary dance/performance, digital artists and programmers, sound artists.
Keywords: Immersive environment for the performing arts, VR, dance+new media, interaction, Unreal Engine.
A two-week hands-on workshop. Digital Scenography for Dance and Theatre.
Week one, “Fundamentals of Unreal Engine” taught by: Álex Martínez Casalà
Week two, “Experimental production lab” conducted by:Rosa Sánchez and Alain Baumann (Konic Thtr).
Final presentation.
Structure and schedule
The training consists of two face-to-face weeks, a first week to receive training in the Unreal Engine 5 software, and a second week where we will put into practice the knowledge acquired, through the execution of a collaborative performance project.
In the first week of the workshop, we will immerse ourselves in the world of Unreal Engine 5 through technical training, introducing us to the essential fundamentals of this technology, in order to acquire the essential knowledge to start developing digital and interactive 3D environments.
The second week of the workshop focuses on the practical application of the technical skills acquired in the previous week, in a specific scenic vision, solving challenges related to the specific particularities of the 3D environment.
For this phase, we will have dance and performance students joining the project, being able to collaborate with them to integrate the created digital scenography into a live performance.
This interdisciplinary approach will provide a deeper understanding of how this technology can enhance body expression and storytelling on stage.
One such workshop about immersive scenography for the performing arts was held at Etopia arts center in December 2023.Read an article about the workshop on this page.
