INTERPLAY – INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION MR-AI

INTERPLAY is an interactive installation combining Mixed Reality (MR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). A participatory space where visitors, equipped with Virtual Reality headsets, can use their voices to create visual dialogues in an immersive environment and experience stunning virtual transformations through their actions.

The project explores the tension between our desire for connection with nature and the distancing imposed by digital mediation. While technology facilitates our lives, it also introduces mechanisms of control and dependency, prompting us to question whether this relationship is, in some ways, toxic.

In INTERPLAY, the AI ‘listens’ to human voices and to plants electric changes, transforming impulses and words into images in real time. An analysis and classification of the electrical impulses from the plant -modulated by light, sound or touch – combined with the transcritpion of the human voice, turn the combination into prompts that generate images.

Some of the questions that lie behind the project are: Can we establish new codes of communication mediated by AI? Can technology act as a bridge rather than a barrier to foster environmental awareness?

Video documentation of Interplay:

This project is a complex interrelation in constant evolution, developed in our residency at Fabra i Coats. The piece was first shown during the ECOSS 2025 festival in Barcelona, followed by an artistic residency at the Art&Science Laboratory, Supercomputing and Networking Center in Poznan. Poland. INTERPLAY is part of the Euroregional Cos(Arteina2) project.
