iXKa preguntas y respuestas:

  • What is iXKa? iXKa is a small size wireless electronic device developed by koniclab in collaboration with Hangar.
  • It includes seven channels of sensor information and a switch:
      • • 1 accelerometer of sensitivity 3g with three axes of information
      • • 1 inclinometer (sensible to inclination) with two axes
      • • 1 gyroscope (sensible to rotations) with two axes.
      • • 1 switch
  • All the sensors are on the same board, which allows a reduced size for iXKa, and also avoids having cables and connectors that could add fragility to this type of devices.
Why iXKA? We have developed iXKa over the two last years, since there is no other device with these characteristics on the market. From Koniclab, we are involved in the development of tools for their application on stage, and iXKa is the latest tool that we have created.

  • How does it work ?The sensors measure the acceleration and the rotation of the part of the body to which iXKa is tied. These data are transmitted by radio frequency to a receiver connected to a computer and can be used to interact with sounds or digital images.

  • What can it be used for? We have developed iXKa for our performing pieces, in which one or several dancers interact with digital environments from their movement. In our latest pieces, Cherrybone and A{d'aigua}, we have combined iXKa with a software developed by the IRCAM allowing gesture recognition.

  • How can one use it?iXKa transmits the data to a receiver connected to a USB port on the computer. In the computer we will use a software that allows communication with the serial port (we use the sotware MaxMSP) to interact in real time with audio, video or with 3D graphics.

  • Can I have one? After almost two years of development and making and testing several prototypes, we have achieved an iXKa version which can be made in a stable and robust way. We are now able to share this process and can sell copies of iXKa. If you are interested in the features of iXKa, please contact us and we can give you more information: ixka@koniclab.info
